“Something that ressembles me”

K.I.M.

Kim is my first name, it’s a Korean name and it means « Gold »

My artist name is K.I.M.

The Capoeira is a Brazilian combat sport, I put a « K » instead of a C in the reference to the first letter of my first Name to do Capoeira.

« I » for India which means « In God »

This in reference to my great interest for Native American Cultures

« M » for Murray which means in Gaelic « Sea » it refers to my Scottish origins from my mother and from the place where I was born.

One Art, One Fight

In French « the Sea » « la mer » and the « The mother » "la mère" pronounced the same but written differently.

Capoeira, India Murray symbolizes the fight for the sea which is also the mother of all life on Earth. But a fight which has the desire to illustrate itself in the way in which the native American People tried to teach us.

The Beginning of my Life as an

Artist

The Christmas I turned 5 was the beginning of my life as an artist.

Christmas father brought me a box of 36 markers. Amazed by all these colors, I took them out of their box and admired them for very long minutes. Months passed before I dared to use them and years before I found what would make my colorful works recognizable. All my Paintings are made with acrylic on canvas.

Totems

I started by using the lines of my school notebooks to draw. It represented a free space in which I could express (speak out ?)my first work.

It was only a few years later that I realized that I had always been drawing Totems.

The geometric lines of my drawing speak of symmetry. I draw identically on the right what exist on the left, it’s a question of balance.

Connecting all the free spaces was like creating an invisible link between each geometrics figure.

Some people tell me « Your works remind me of cathedrals » As for me, they remind me of « sentinels ».

One or the other of them surely had a reasons to exist.

The Color

The colors have a body, en intensity, a light, some mix easily, others are revealed themselves thanks to neighbors.Others resist, certain mixtures, you sometimes have to negotiate with it.

Putting colors side by side that we wouldn’t necessary associate fascinates me, some tarnish depending on the tones associated with them. Others reveal themselves in surprising ways. This sometimes forms totally unexpected harmonies. Playing to find harmonies is exhilarating.

Each figure is a universe on which I watch.

Each of my drawing is an opportunity to exposed colors.

I could have chosen to draw and paint landscapes, bodies, faces, villages but there were so many colors to express. I needed drawings that would leave me free to reveal all the harmonies that would flow through my inspiration and believe me, they are infinite.
